DesignUp X - Journey through the Decade | Liquidink Design

When we were approached with the idea of DesignUp™ Conference turning 10, we didn’t want to just wish them a happy anniversary. We wanted to build something that could last a decade. There was no brief, no prescribed format just a blank canvas and the freedom to imagine what this could be. A shared desire to celebrate what DesignUp had come to mean to the design community and us. The idea was to look beyond the talks, stages and speakers, towards the things that often go unnoticed. The objects, artefacts and fragments that may seem small or insignificant, but carry memories of their own. From there came the idea of connecting the dots of ten years through ‘objects of memory’. Each one became a fragment of a larger story, something to discover, interact with and remember. For us, the exciting part was taking this idea and figuring out how to turn an idea that existed purely in our heads into an interactive digital experience. Beyond the storyboard and visual language, it became an opportunity to experiment with motion, interaction, Three.js and Webflow and push ourselves beyond the kind of digital work we had made before at the studio. And we wanted to do it simply because we believed in it. DesignUp has spent a decade creating space for the design community to meet, exchange ideas and grow. We wanted to contribute to that milestone by making something that could creatively bring this journey together. So we chose to put our time, craft and curiosity into the project without any expectation - giving ourselves the freedom to explore, experiment and make something that perhaps wouldn’t have existed otherwise. Ten years of looking back. A lifetime of looking forward.
