Shaky Gotcha | Vol. 8.0 – Zero-Second Restart & Flow Design
Project description
3D Web Arcade Case Study: Vol. 8.0 – Zero-Second Restart & Flow Design What goes through a player’s mind the moment the game ends?“ Ah, I messed up! Just a tiny bit!” As a designer, the worst thing you can do is give them time to “cool off.” In most web experiences, hitting “Play Again” triggers a screen flash and resource reload. Those few seconds of loading are fatal moments — attention drifts, windows close. In Shaky Gotcha, I decided to eliminate that gap entirely. I ditched the traditional reload system in favor of an Instant State Reset. When you press “Retry” on the results screen, all complex variables quietly recombine in the background within one second: • Time resets. • Meteors return to initial velocity. • Remaining targets are instantly cleared. What the user sees is simple: the results window fades out gracefully, immediately followed by the “READY… GO!” animation and sound smashing seamlessly onto the screen. No loading. No black screen. No pause. Your adrenaline hasn’t even dropped, and the next run is already underway. Good flow design leaves no room for hesitation. “Play again” becomes not a choice — but an instinct, a muscle memory. 🪐 Dive into the full series on my profile.
