3D Web Arcade Case Study: Vol. 9.0 – Visual Order & UI Noise Control What happens when you throw 100 spinning 3D cards onto the screen? The answer: a visual disaster. If every card is glowing, then no card really stands out — users’ eyes give up in three seconds flat. In Shaky Gotcha, players need to precisely spot the single target amidst the dense interstellar cylinder. I didn’t enlarge the target. I didn’t add flashy arrows. Instead, I relied on the most powerful weapon in UI design: subtraction. I designed a dynamic lighting system based on 3D depth and target state. The moment the target appears, the system mercilessly dims the other 99 cards. The farther a card is from the camera, the deeper it sinks into the pure black void of space. Only the target card remains fully illuminated, surrounded by a regularly pulsating neon frame. No tutorial. No text hints. When the world goes dark, where the light is, instinct guides the eye. In a space overloaded with information, the best way to guide attention isn’t turning up the volume — it’s silencing the noise around it.... 🪐 Dive into the full series on my profile.
