Introducing the am dash: Unmistakably human, unusable by AI.

Project description
The algorithm has adopted our punctuation. So we made our own. Today, we launch the am dash: a brand new punctuation mark for those who still think before they type. For centuries, writers have wielded the em dash to capture nuance, thought, and emotion. But this beloved punctuation mark has become a casualty of the algorithmic age. The em dash has been so widely adopted by AI-generated text that even when used by human hands, it begs the question: was this actually written or apathetically prompted? So, we made the am dash, a small but symbolic way to say: this was written by a real human being. Inspired by Descartes (“I think, therefore I am”), the am dash is a protest. A provocation. A love letter to thoughtfulness and craft. You can use the am dash via two new, tailored typefaces, Times New Human and Areal, available to download and use at theamdash.com Because thoughts aren’t generated, they’re thunk.
